The last area to look at is Planning and in this respect “short term’ planning, as it this particular aspect that causes so much concern for colleagues.
Today I am going to put a link here for a video I made on this particular subject which runs through all the points you need to be be both considering and implementing.
The video is 30 minutes long but sums up things very well.
Within the video I recommend building up your own source materials and texts and I give a few examples - let me expand on the video list by giving you examples of just where personal source texts would be an advantage. Amazon is a great starting point for second hand / value texts
Comprehension often done as guided reading in class but the DFE tests are basic comprehension and as such I recommend teaching to this. Use 3 levels in class. Buy 1 copy of each level of a set
Grammar - A set is usually written as 1 book for each year group. Great to give you themes / ideas and examples to use
Writing - as needed. Some texts give a variety of chapters on how to develop every aspect of writing
Phonics - now being recommended right across the school as links directly with spelling. I used to do this for 20 mins every day. (see video)
Topic core texts - dont try to be an expert. buy a couple of core texts for whatever your topic theme is and use the text and pictures as the base for your topic. You can always research further examples based on which direction you are taking things…but these core books will give you the central theme info.
Hope the above gives you some ideas - below is the web address for the video which you will have to copy and paste.
Tomorrow we will pull everything together.
Here’s the link for todays video.
